My Little Blue French Desk

Where did we leave off?  Oh yes... Here...

And while this is already a huge improvement, I told you I have a problem with making myself stop when it comes to this stuff.  She is beautiful, but not extraordinary.

I wanted to put something on the top, like, the WHOLE top.  I thought about just painting it another color (yawn).  Then I considered chalkboard paint (a little better but it's been done A LOT).  Then I remembered that last time I went to the Lobby (which I now live less than a mile from!) I grabbed this

Transfer paper!  It's a little pricey at $6.99, but it's 20 sheets and can be used over and over so I figured it was worth the investment :)

Next I went to the only place I know that I will never be disappointed when looking for a graphic.  Graphics Fairy has a million and one graphics that I wanted to use!  I finally decided on this one

I'm not real sure what it says, but doesn't it look cool!

I blew it up in excel and printed it (fast draft, grayscale) onto 12 sheets of paper. Then got to tracing.  This is what it looked like once I lifted the graphite paper.  It made the next part easy.

Hubby the Great and I rearranged the living room so we could still be together while he played video games and I painted... isn't he Great!?

I roughed her up with a sander and glazed her over with some black glaze. Then slapped a few coats of MinWax Rub-On Poly and

I added a little graphic to the front drawer.

Let's just take one more look:
BEFORE
DURING

AFTER

My original intent when I bought this was to refinish it and sell it.  I think I'll just put a price tag of $2000 and see what happens.  If I have to keep it, I have to keep it ;o)

What do you think?

  8. Adorable! My hubby too would clear an area of the living room for me to come do a project as he says I get "cooped up" too much in my craft room and he "misses me"

  11. Love it! I just pulled that same graphic to put on a coffee table I have. I believe it is advertising "superior fabric" and beyond that I am lost. Well done!

  12. Use Google Translate to find out what all kinds of things say; this sign says "hardware for factory buildings." I get a kick out of how fancy it looks and it's just for factory hardware. I would really like to put this graphic on my coffee table so that when I sit down to watch tv I can giggle to myself. I'm the only one who knows! (he-he!)

This looks great! I would love to find a desk like this! Wonderful job!

  20. Absolutely beautiful job, Katie! Wow! Love that extra little "Paris" on the drawer front! I just used a French graphic on top of a bench. What would we do without The Graphic's Fairy?? :) What did you use to paint the lettering? Paint pen or paint brush....?

  22. Katie,
I have FINALLY found you! I have been wondering for days and checking out the internet to see how this is done.
I have a large coffee table and want to transfer the word "Imagine" on it. I didn't know about the graphite paper.
Question: Can i just print (mirror image) on Word? I don't know how to use Excel.
What kind of paint did you use to fill in the letters?
Hope you will email me soon. Thanks!
