70's Dresser Mirrors to Wall Moulding

While I did this project awhile back (at my old house) it is still the one that is most commented on in my house.  Everyone always wants to know what they are and where they came from.  They are always intrigued by the answer.  They started out as some very dirty old mirrors.

PLEASE forgive the poor quality of these pictures, my old house had NO light in it!

I loved their shape, that's why I grabbed them.  I cleaned them up and removed the mirrors from the back.  At this point, I still had no clue what I wanted to do with them.

I painted them white and an image came into my head... what if I put them up on the wall and used them as "moulding"?

They added so much character to a once blank wall.  You can also find the tutorial for the lamps here if you are interested!

I love the versatility of these.  You can change out what you hang inside them for a different look each season.  At Christmas, I like to hang my little fur wreaths inside them.

Yes, that was the only place in that house that the christmas tree would fit...

Now that we are in our new house, the "mirrors" started out in our formal living room flanking the big picture window.

I don't have a fantastic picture because I decided yesterday to give them yet another home.  I swear that these things look great anywhere!  They now hang in my dining room.

I have been working non stop trying to get my dining room ready to share with you, but I have some more work to go.  Here a few sneak peaks at some things I've been working on!

Make sure to check back later to see these hanging in the completed room!

And lastly, I had to share one more picture with you.  I have decided to (attempt to) conquer my fear of shooting my camera in complete manual mode.  I started playing yesterday and came up with this picture of my beautiful Boog that I shot completely in manual! Love this little girl :)

Updated Site!

I know I haven't blogged much about photography (yet) but I have kept myself a little quiet in this arena lately.  I struggle a lot with confidence as a photographer because I am completely self taught and lack a lot of the "knowledge" that I feel it takes to be a "professional photographer".

So I am stepping out.  I created a site totally dedicated to my photography.  It's right up there... see it?  Daniels Den Photography!  It is still under construction.  There are still no details as far as sessions and pricing.  I'm getting there.  Check it out.  Let me know what you think!

I also wanted you to be able to get to know a little more about me!  So check out that link above as well... it tells a little more of my story.

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

Design Inspirations

With a sick Boog and a sick Hubby this week, I haven't gotten many projects done.  So I thought I would share my next big project with you.  We have decided to work on our bedroom.  I have had a pretty distinct picture in my head about what I have wanted for about 2 years now :o)  But never in my wildest dreams did I picture a wall size fireplace in my bedroom!

We are truly starting from scratch in here.

This was taken the first time we came to look at the house... and for some reason that I cannot tell you, I am still waking up to split pea soup every morning.  Ugh! But good news!  I just did a design job to earn enough money to make over our master, so this is where I will start for inspiration.

We have big, black, chunky furniture.  I mean big.  And while I would really like to just sell it all and get new (old) stuff to repurpose, Hubby the Great isn't too into the idea of getting rid of the furniture we just paid off.  So I will make it work.

Painting is first.  I knew what I wanted to do the first time I saw this picture

Isn't it beautiful!?! I think Board and Batten will help soften my big chunky furniture. And a lighter blue-green color on top will work perfectly.

Next, the fireplace... I want to stain it white and find a big, beautiful old mantle (on the cheap of course)...  This part may take awhile :o)

One like this (only not behind my bed, but over the fireplace)

or this (only again, not behind my bed)
or these... (apparently it's not in style to use these anywhere but behind your bed)

or maybe if I can't find one... I'll just build one like this

I think I'm going to return to an old favorite for curtains and use some good ol' drop cloths.  I'm sure I can find some way to dandy them up :o)

I want to add some fabric to my headboard using this technique I found on Gus and Lula.

I'm hoping adding some lighter fabric will help make it look a little more feminine.

My first upholstery project, some hanging lanterns, a rug (that I will NOT be painting), and some DIY art are also on my list.

Measuring for board and batten starts today, along with paint purchasing and color matching.

Are you along for the ride?
